The WebLoyalty Scam

The Scam – How it Works

A company by the name of WebLoyalty (aka ShopperDiscount.com & ReservationRewards.com) has been under major heat for a while now because it is basically a big scam. What happens is big web companies such as 1-800-flowers.com, Fandango, and Orbitz just to name a few (get the full list here) have customers who purchase products from them.

When a customer reaches the checkout area of the site and finishes making the purchase, a pop-up window appears and usually offers a discount on the recent purchase or future purchases just by clicking a button or entering an email address. Then the company in question gives WebLoyalty the customer’s credit card information without their knowledge and the monthly charges begin. The charges are usually for $12/month and can appear from one or both of the subsidiary companies WebLoyalty operates (ShopperDiscount.com & ReservationRewards.com). Since people either don’t check their bank statements before paying, or don’t think twice about a $12 charge, WebLoyalty usually gets away with these monthly charges for a while.

How To Get Your Money Back From WebLoyalty

Since WebLoyalty has been sued and lost, they are now easily convinced into giving you your money back. Even if you didn’t realize these charges were occurring for 2 years you can get all of your money back. Here are the steps:

  1. Call WebLoyalty (203.846.3300) and when you get a customer service rep on the phone, give them the required information and ask to terminate your account.
  2. Then, ask for your full refund of all the money you have paid. They will offer you up to 4 months refund instantly if you ask them.
  3. Lastly, you will need to ask for an affidavit to get paid the rest of your refund. They will send it by email so fill it out immediately. You will then get all of your money back after they receive and process it.

That’s it! It doesn’t take make arguing on the phone to make this happen. So if you see you have been getting charged by either ShopperDiscount.com or ReservationRewards.com, get your money back!

    Aiste,
Did you do this recently? When? I have checked and have gotten hosed for $260 by shoppersdiscount.com. I feel like a fool, but have so many charges on my credit card that I never felt this small charge.
I am going to call that number tomorrow, tried today and they are gone for the day.

    Carol,

Yes! This was recent. We were able to call that number and easily get 4 months worth of charges back. The rest of the money is coming after submitting the affidavit. You should be able to get all of your money back. Come back if you have any troubles, maybe I can help.

    Thanks,

    Matt

    Matt,
Just like you outlined above. I called Webloyalty at the number above and was redirected to call 1-800-361-1786. The guy was pleasant, looked me up and noted the website where I had supposedly “joined”. In my case it was Joann.com. I told him I did not join and was the only member of my household, and I didn’t do it. He offered easily to give me $40 or 4 charges back. I had to ASK to get the remainder, then he told me he would email the affidavit.

Thanks so much for posting this. I have confirmed the $40 dollars has been credited to my Am Express acct. Yahoo! Now for part 2!!!

Have you received your money back from the affidavit?

    Thanks Again!

that’s great news. I think they were sued so much that they are not even allowed to try to argue with you. yes, you have to ask for the remainder of the money. haven’t received it yet, but i’m sure we will.

Took 6 months of documented email to get my money back…now I would like compensatory refund from the company that was supposed to be a “secured” web site–who flipped all my info over to these WEBLOYALTY CREEPS. Word of warning if you buy pet meds/supplies online–DONOT use an ‘insdtant coupon’.

I got brought into this scam using Orbitz. I feel pretty dumb because it has been going on for 27 months now with both “Shopper Discount” and “Reservation Rewards” at $12 each per month. My question is this. How about the interest I have been paying on all this extra balance?

    Berminator Reply:

    hmm…

best bet is to just ask them to refund that as well.

Thank you for making this very useful post. I got hit by the webloyalty scam where I live in the UK. It was through “Ticketmaster”, when I bought tickets for a concert. Shame on Ticketmaster I say. I will name and shame them at every opportunity. Anyway I followed your advice and it worked. Got £30 back and waiting for a form for the remaining £10.

Great! I love hearing that. Unfortunately, I haven’t had a chance to update this site in a while but at least I was able to help a few people! Thanks for following up.

I purchased items through buy.com 2 years ago and I also feel quite foolish for not checking my statement more closely. I did call them and as stated they offered to pay me back for 4 months and when I got even more upset and asked for the whole amount back they said no problem just fill out this affidavit that they would send me. My problem is the options that you “must” check and none of them state that I did not sign up for this service example follows:

    2. Please Check all statements below that apply to you. You must check at least one statement and you may check more than one statement:
    A. ____I knowingly enrolled for SDR, and I understood at the time I signed up that my credit or debit card would be charged if I did not cancel within thirty days.
    B. ____I previously attempted to cancel, but was unable to do so successfully
    C. ____I did not understand I was enrolling in a membership program for which I would be billed.
    D. ____I understood that I enrolled in SDR but I did not knowingly authorize the billing of the fees for such program.
    E. ____I have not reported that my credit card or debit card has been lost or stolen.
    F. ____I have not received a credit for the charges for which I am now requesting reimbursement.

My question is which option do I choose? It feels that any of the options I pick makes me responsible for this. I appreciate this site and any info I may get. Thanks.

I also contacted the BBB and the fraud department of my bank. They were very helpful and had heard several times of Reservation Rewards and webloyalty. They sure are a scam and I paid them for OVER two years.Right away they credited me $48 (that is 4 months) and I just sent away to get the rest of my money back. What a sneaky underhanded company.

they r dirtbags and so is Orbitz for offering it up. I followed the advice here and got 4 months back (at least they SAID so, I have not received an e-mail confirmation back) and said after filling out the form that ALL prior payments would be refunded. I feel pretty stupid because it’s been going on for 2 years. The few times I noticed the payment I thought it had to do with making travel arrangements through AmEx or something.
